Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The Music

Joseph is a “rock opera.”  There is no dialogue, and the show is around an hour (the exact length varies on different performances).

If you have the soundtrack, you have the complete show.

I have two different Joseph soundtracks, and I can make a copy for you of either or both.

Or, you can download the MP3’s of the songs here.

The Soundtracks:

I mostly refer to these by who plays Joseph.

1992 Canadian Cast starring Donny Osmond

This is very similar musically to what is on the DVD, but Donny Osmond is the only cast member that is the same.

This version is really jazzed up and extra campy.  It has a lot of energy.

It also has a lot of little things that annoy me personally, and I don’t really like a lot of the singers.

1982 Original Broadway Cast starring Bill Hutton

This version is simpler, and more standard Broadway.

I think more can be done with the show than what they have here,

but I also think its simplicity makes it easier to learn the music from this one.

I also like most of these singers more.

Here are all of the songs, in order.  [If I burned you a copy of a soundtrack, some of these songs are actually on the same track.]

I have listed who sings in each song, not necessarily who’s on stage.  [“Chorus” means both women’s chorus and men’s chorus (aka Brothers, but when listed as “Chorus” they’re not playing the brothers.).  There are several places where the singing part could be Chorus, could be Women, could be Narrators.  We’ll figure it out.]

There are two extra songs on the Donny Osmond version.  The Megamix at the end is usually used as the curtain call, and gives the show more of a big finale feeling.  It is common to simply have a reprise of “Go, Go, Go Joseph” as the curtain call as well.  We will do something like this but I don’t know what yet.  The version of “Any Dream Will Do” listed last here actually comes right after the “Prologue” in the Donny Osmond version, but I think that’s just odd, and I don’t think we’ll be doing that, but here it is if anyone wants to hear it.
